GE MWF (SmartWater, now sold as MWFP): what it fits and certified alternatives
At a glance
Summarised from the sections below. NSF certification and fit are separate things: always confirm with your exact model number.
Checked October 22, 2026. GE says the MWFP is the improved replacement for the MWF and its label still reads "MWF"; GE groups it with the older GWF and HWF SmartWater filters.
Which fridges it fits
Per GE's SmartWater filter support article: GE refrigerators with SmartWater or SmartWater Plus filtration that use the MWF/GWF/HWF filter. GE's product page says it fits select GE side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators. The cylindrical GSWF and MSWF filters are not interchangeable with the MWF.
Specific model list: not verified. GE doesn't publish a model list on the product page; enter your model number in the filter finder on GE's MWFP page.
Genuine filter
- Price: $49.99 (clearance, 1-pack) on GEAppliances.com; showed "temporarily out of stock" and "no longer being manufactured".
- Certification: NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 per the specs on GE's MWFP page. GE's pharmaceutical-reduction claim is lab-tested, and GE says it is not certified by NSF. NSF 401: not claimed by GE. Replace every 6 months.
Generic alternatives
Generic alternatives: not verified. The NSF listings would not load when we checked on October 22, 2026, so we haven't listed any generic MWF models yet. Search NSF by trade name and the exact model number before you buy one. GE says it hasn't qualified non-GE filters for its refrigerators.
