GE XWFE: what it fits and certified alternatives

Checked October 21, 2026. Replaces GE XWF. GE lists the XWFE as no longer manufactured.

Which fridges it fits

Per GE's support article: GE refrigerators that use the XWFE, plus all refrigerators that used the older XWF (the XWFE is backwards compatible). The XWF is not forward compatible with fridges designed for the XWFE.

Specific model list: not verified. Use GE's filter finder on the XWFE page.

Chip warning: the XWFE has an RFID chip. GE says that with a missing, wrong or non-GE filter, the fridge shows "ERR" and shuts off water and ice. A generic without a working chip may not work in XWFE fridges.

Model names match the OEM part number, but NSF does not check fit; fit is the seller's claim. Some standards cover only certain contaminants, so open the listing to see exactly what each model is certified to reduce.

These NSF listings are for XWF replacements. Whether they include an RFID chip that XWFE fridges accept: not verified. They are fine on paper only for fridges that originally took the XWF.
